Since starting my own business, I’ve worked from home — my main gig is social media marketing. But during the pandemic I’ve used my home office even more, and more people have seen it than ever before thanks to Zoom. But my office is really a multipurpose room — the office portion is in one corner, there’s a TV on the wall behind me, and a couch under the window. We use my office as another place to watch TV in the evenings, and the couch pulls out into a bed so it also doubles as a second guest room when we have multiple guests staying with us.

BEFORE

Before, it was the same Sherwin-Williams Repose Gray as the rest of the house. Over time, I put up some much-needed vertical storage and organization but overall, it was pretty boring. I knew I wanted a dark wall to let the gold accents shine, but not so dark that it swallowed up the espresso-colored desk. I also didn’t want to paint the entire room a dark color — my office is the smallest room in the house with one small window and I didn’t want to make it feel any smaller.

After looking at many deep, moody greens, I landed on Sherwin-Williams Forestwood. I love that it’s a warm, smokey dark green and it gave me all the moody vibes I was looking for but still let the desk stand out on its own. I chose to really accentuate my “corner office” and only paint the walls around the desk to help define the office space.

To achieve a clean, flawless paint line you’ll need Frog Tape — it really is better than the rest. First, paint over the tape with your existing wall color (Repose Gray). That way, if anything seeps under the tape you won’t see it because it’s the same color as the wall you’re painting. Once dry, you can paint on your new color (Forestwood). Then, slowly peel off the tape at a 45° angle while the paint is still wet. Voila! A perfectly crisp paint line, every time.

AFTER

I’m so happy with how it turned out — it makes sitting in my office everyday that much more enjoyable. The only downside is I’m the only one who gets to see it — on my Zoom calls, clients only see the wall behind me. I think I’ve decided I need to paint that wall the same gorgeous color, though I may add a pattern to it. And a gallery wall to help hide the TV. Stay tuned for that one!
